The meaning of the tradition:
|
According to an old English tradition...
Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue is the favourite custom for many
brides.
The Victorians first came up with the saying and is often
repeated but many people do not know its meaning.
‘Something old’ represents the link with the bride’s family and the
past.
‘Something new’
represents good fortune and success in the bride’s new life.
‘Something borrowed’ is to remind
the bride that friends and family will be there for her when help is needed.
'Something blue' represents faithfulness and loyalty because in Biblical days the colour represented purity.
